Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever. The bet does more than expose Persephone's failure as a goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows-and it's forbidden.

Great start to an exciting retelling

In this book we get a beautiful retelling of the story of hades and Persephone. We also get to see a sheltered Persephone break from her shell and decide what she herself wants out of life instead of what her mother wants for her. This book was great and I’m planning to read this series in tandem with the hades saga so I can get both sides of the story as it unfolds!!

A fun read

Persephone's behavior is very rash and doesn't always make sense. A lot of times her behavior, despite being unrealistic, is used to drive the plot forward. Additionally, the author crams in a lot of mini plots to create more problems and tension even though it is not necessary. The concept of the world is interesting though and the chemistry between Hades and Persephone is great. Overall, an enjoyable read, that made me excited to read the story from Hades's point of view. Additionally, despite being the beginning of a series, the author manages to write the story completely without leaving people disappointed with the ending.

Recommend !!

This book was essentially my introduction into the Greek mythology world. I absolutely loved it! I will say I found Persephone can be a bit frustrating at times but it’s tolerable bc the author does a good job at explaining where it stems from in terms of her upbringing (and age)…. Also I’m an absolute sucker for the steaminess of it throughout! Definitely left me wanting more

Go get this book !

The impulse to whisk her away to the underworld was strong, like a spell. He had never thought himself so weak, but his restraint was a thing;frayed thread . 5/5⭐ 4/5🌶️ . A beautiful modern retelling about hades and persephone. Showing the godes of spring in the human world lured into an agreement with the lord of the dead . What i loved: The cover/sides/graphics: Look at the book, i have a limited edition with stencils on the side Its gorgeous ! Its dark, its romance it's perfect The writing style: The book is so easy to read so easy to get lost in and so easy to love I finished it in 2 days reading on the train, in bed when i should have been sleeping, Flipping page after page The story: I love the world she built, the illusions in the underworld, the well written characters Ok Persephone could have made smarter choices and not let herself be pushed around so much but it is relatable. What is already a big achievement as I usually don't really relate to the goddess of spring 😉 And the spice... It is perfect the tension builds, there is a curiosity there is love, ... What i didn't love: My book ending ? But luckily for me i have the next one waiting 😁 So go get this book read it now !!!!!

A Perfect Retelling

I loved this book. Hades and Persephone has also been one of my favorite myths, so when i found this retelling, I knew I had to read it. Hades is the definition of strong, silent, brooding type. He gave me Angel from Buffy vibes - the non-creepy one. Persephone could be a little whiny at times but let's be honest she was a 24–25-year-old who grew up in a beautiful prison with only her jailer - mother - as a friend. And even when she finally gets aways her mother sends spies and drops by unannounced. She could have been way worse. The supporting cast of characters were well written and three dimensional. Yes, you really dislike some and love others but some of them you truly have no clue what they are really like. Clair's twist on the story takes a reasonably black and white tale and paints it in beautiful shades of the rainbow. Watching these two characters fights themselves, and the circumstances molding their lives to come together made the book hard - if not impossible to put down. The book does have a number of smexy times but honestly you could pull them out and the story wouldn't be less. Clair has a deft had at crafting characters we can all relate to and enjoy. Loved this book, I couldn’t put it down!!!

I absolutely loved the way this series was written. It definitely caught my attention that I wasn’t able to put it down. Read about 6 - 12 chapters in one sitting!! Would recommend if you’re into romance and Greek mythology but more modernized!

OMG

I am pretty new into reading and I am so glad I got this book. I could not put it down. It was worth every single second I spent reading this book. I have always been big into Greek mythology and this was the most addicting retelling I have ever read. It's one of those books you with you could read for the first time again to experience it for a life time.
