This is what we should be reading in our schools!!

This book was recommended by a high school AP English teacher. She wanted to read this book but was denied permission to teach/read with the class because of a few scenes. After reading the book I found it funny how they wouldn't let us read it, they have approved books way more "not school appropriate" than this. The teacher was in tears in frustration and I can completely see why. This books is beautiful and poetic, following two different perspectives on world war two. This has become one of my favorite books and I found it so interesting. I think if they assigned this in school students would actually enjoy reading! It has elevated my standards of literature and how I rate books. It was absolutely incredible, had amazing themes, and I can't recommend it enough!

Fantastic

I was given the book by mother who told me I would cry by the end, I hadn’t a book in over a year. I’m so glad this was my reintroduction. I read the book in two days And cried by the end. Amazing literature!

Slow clap standing ovation!

I can't lie, it took me 2 restarts to get into this book. The beginning is heavy in details for character building but then it really gets going! The author did a great job of keeping every character that is introduced great importance to the story line. The back and forth of the characters keeps you enthralled in the characters journeys. BUT THE ENDING... the emotions from "how could he make it end this way" quickly to "what a realistic ending, Bravo!" In my mind I put down the book and gave it a standing ovation with a slow to fast clap ending! I highly recommend it!

Love this book!

I first read this last year, and I'm back for a second read with one of my boys. While I normally don't read war stories, this one is so much more than that. It showcases two lives on a collision course, and in doing so, brings a deep insight into the question I've always wondered: "How could so many be a part of this?" It's all in the slow unfolding: Fascism occurred right before their eyes I cannot stress how much I enjoyed this piece of historical fiction.

Boring so far

I bought this book because everyone was recommending it, open the book it then not have my attention I continue to read it because I bought it, two days and I’m only one the 27th page, 27th page of boredom I’ll continue to read to see how it goes, but so far it’s so boring like I don’t understand the Pulitzer Prize? I’ve read far better books than this, I’m disappointed. Too much basic imagery that could’ve been left out. But I’ll continue to read

Excellent Book

What a stunning book. I wondered how all the separate threads would be weaved together at the end, and I was thoroughly satisfied. This is what WWII historical fiction should be. I highly recommend. 5/5 stars

Favorite.

I'm a huge fan of historical fiction and this is absolutely my favorite thus far. The writing in this book is nothing short of beautiful and the author tied everything together from the characters and their interests to the changes in time as well as perspective. It now holds a very special place in my heart.
