“Families are messy. Immortal families are externally messy. Sometimes the best we can do is to remind each other that we’re related, for better or worse… and try to keep the maiming and killing to a minimum.” In Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan, Percy is set on a voyage to rescue his friend Grover and the Golden fleece from a Cyclops. Percy also discovers a new friend and ally Tyson the cyclops. I am enjoying this series so much. Tyson is my new favorite character. I seriously adore him. I also love the liberties Riordan takes with the gods and the mythology and the modern spins he puts on them to make them fit in todays time. I already treasure this series and this installment was definitely another 5 star read.

Fun read
This is such a fun series to read! I really wish the movies had done these books justice. Clarisse is supposed to unlikable but I really like her. She annoys me a little to an extent but she's so awesome. Love Annabeth and Grover! They are awesome.

Amazing characters and plot, as usual!
Wow, just wow. Rick Riordan does it again. This story, as well as the rest of the Percy Jackson series, is always a delight to read. I enjoyed the adventure, the tales of friendship, and the classic tales of ancient Greece turned into a modern-day quest. The main quest of this book is to find the Golden Fleece, a magical healing sheet of wool that is needed to save Camp Half-Blood after someone poisoned Thalia’s tree, which helps protect the camp. It was very intriguing to hear the spin on this tale that I had previously known before reading Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. I really enjoyed the introduction of new characters, especially Tyson, the sweetheart cyclops. I also enjoyed the in-depth characters. Like when Annabeth, who we have only known to be unstoppable and fearless, is shown to have a weakness. I think this is really important in YA fiction, so that teens can see that it is ok to show emotion and have weaknesses. The plot of this book always had me on my toes. There was adventure wherever you looked and each chapter never failed to make me laugh. My favorite part of this book was when Percy and Annabeth are at Circe’s Island. On Circe’s Island, Percy and Annabeth are tricked that it is a spa, and Circe turns Percy into a guinea pig. Rick Riordan was able to combine thrill, mystery, wit, and comedy all in one chapter. My only criticism of this book is the slow beginning. It took some patience to get past the slow advancement of the story in the first 3 chapters in the book, however when I got past there, it was hard for me to put the book down! My favorite detail in this book is the strong female best friend. In most books, the closest female friend to the male main character is constantly a damsel in distress, however Riordan allows Annabeth to be the smart, strong one. Annabeth is the one to save Percy from Circe and is able to confront her insecurities and fears when encountering the sirens. All in all, this book is a must read for children, teens, and even adults. This book inspires heroism and helps us imagine a fantasy world where Greek mythology comes to life in a modern-day setting. Though it might take you a minute to get through the first few chapters, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters should definitely be on any to-read list. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone in need of a light, fun, enjoyable read.

Amazing!
Just as good as the first book, Rick Riordan never cease to amaze me! Not to mention and spoiler alert, finding out that you have a sibling that you didn’t want. Then going through a mental breakdown of why and how could he. When really your father just wants to protect you because he knows how you are and your personality. Absolutely hilarious, also poor Percy. But he was acting like a pouty brat, who feels like he was being replaced. The feeling is valid. And the plot-twisted at the end was chief’s kiss. Was not expecting that to happen.
