dark and twisty

I read this as a buddy read with two of my friends and was blown away. The writing took a bit for me to get into, but once I did, I couldn't read fast enough. The characters are multi-dimensional and distinct, and there are so many plot twists throughout the series. It's a perfect read if you're looking for a dark fantasy revolving around royalty, a competition (to the death) and edge-of-your-seat action.

Nice Dark YA Fantasy

I thought the premise of this book sounded interesting enough that it was worth buying. It's definitely a slow burn kind of read with repeated POV jumps. Most of the action didn't take place until the last quarter of the book so this was not a book I was able to binge read. There is also no really complete story arc at the end of this book as it just straight continues into the 2nd one. The POV itself is written in third person present tense which is a little strange in itself and was difficult for me to get used to. I felt frustrated with how weak all the main characters were even though they're titled as queens. They can be pushed around and abused with no repercussions and it just made me question what sort of power a "queen" actually has. That being said, I think my favorite POV is with Katharine. I love the society of the poisoners and I think her arc is going to be an interesting one going forward.

The equivalent of the movie Joker 2024

Do not waist your time. If I wanted to listen to someone talk about their every day life I could just go to work and listen to customers for 8 hrs. This entire book is just background to let your know why u should care about someone. After reading there is a 10 page climax and that’s it period. Please for your own sanity and happiness read a summary and then go on to the next two books. (I haven’t read the rest of the series fyi). This first book has waisted so much of my time I won’t read the rest of the series because fool me once shame on me and I’m not getting fooled again. Literally had me so hyped and then no climax I’m in shock and disbelief. Don’t waste ur money please my wallet is hurting enough for the both of us in this terrible purchase.
