From Colleen Hoover, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us, comes a moving and haunting novel of family, love, and the power of the truth. Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness. The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mothers former nurse, the little half-brother isnt allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, theres Merit. Merit Voss collects trophies she hasnt earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into heruntil she discovers that hes completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix. Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that shes never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves.

Pretty good

I had no idea what to expect from this one. I really enjoyed this book but I kept feeling like something would happen and it never did. I mean, things happen, but not whatever it was that I was anticipating. I recommend it.

Beautiful underrated book

This book is 100% underrated and I’m shocked because it’s so good. I enjoyed seeing Merits growth and her realizing that it is okay to not be okay. Overall a great book by Colleen once again

Had high expectations

I had high expectations seeing reviews and liking other books by this author and I will say I liked the book at first after reading a few chapters but it slowly became a little too over the top for me and all over the place. Didn’t love the storyline and had to force myself to finish it, it was too cheesy for me. I wouldn’t recommend.

Hoover Does It Again With Another Amazing Story

In a world where teenagers have to face many problems, it's important to know that other people are struggling too. Without Merit By Colleen Hoover is a book that lets you know everything is going to be okay. Especially when it comes to love and family problems. In this book, you follow a time period in the main character's life, Merit, where she is done. She is done with feeling unappreciated by her family, hiding her family's secrets, and always being second-best to her twin sister, Honor. A lot of people are able to relate to this book and see themselves in Merit. She is seventeen years old and in a depressive chapter in her life. However, throughout the book readers will understand the power of speaking up and using your words. Merit refuses to continue holding back, sharing an important message. After reading this book you feel better about yourself. You understand how difficult life can really be and start to be grateful for your own. I am thankful that I do not have to deal with such extreme issues as Merit does. But I now know that calling those that are wrong out is the correct action to take. Even if they are a person I love. This read has changed the perspective I have on words. I now know that what I have to say can make an impact. It can change others for the better. Colleen Hoover just never fails at writing a great story. Her work is easy to understand due to the word choice and everything runs smoothly. She also never fails at including a jaw-dropping plot twist, which is very fun to experience as a reader. I personally really enjoy all her writting. But in contrast with her other books like It Ends With Us or It Starts With Us, this book is less concentrated on romance. It focuses more on family and the issues/feelings of being a teenager. In other words, it's absolutely perfect for all ages, but especially teens. It’s a healthy reference point for people of this age. Often you can feel uncomfortable sharing deep feelings with people like your parents, but Without Merit is like a safe place. This story allows people to connect to another person's life without being judged. This is the beauty of books. They are a separate world that is safe and fun for readers. Without Merit is a place full of potential to be enjoyed by anybody.
