You (You Series #1) by Caroline Kepnes

This is one of the most capitvating serial killer books i've ever written. Kepnes goes into graphic detail in this book and really doesn't hold back. It's a tragic romance; sad but beautiful in the same way. The imagery and passion she put into killing Beck breaks your heart, but in the next page flip, you feel bad for Joe. It's a puzzling feeling the way she makes you feel bad for a serial killer.

Wow!
Love this book so much. A great read!! Joe is much more weird and interesting in the book, and i think the book is a lot more in depth. I also feel like i’m able to connect with the ‘off-putting’ mentality he has better while reading it rather than the show: which i think is super intriguing!! Has some dark humor within which makes it a fun read while it twists and changes throughout.

Genuinely Frightening
This is so much more disturbing than the TV adaptation. I can understand why they (slightly) toned down the content for a young adult streaming audience, but I also wonder what a more faithful, unrelenting feature film adaptation with a more realistic depiction of New York City would have looked like. Kepnes does a masterful, somewhat eerie job of capturing delusional male paranoia at its most desperate, so much so that the text sometimes reads as if written in the voice of an eloquent, organized potential mass shooter. It's one of the more effective characterizations of male entitlement that I've read.

Super creepy but not in a good way
I couldn’t finish this book. I had high hopes since I am open to flawed/unreliable narrators, but Joe isn’t just flawed, he’s sick and creepy and doesn’t even seem to know it. After spending 5 chapters inside this deviant mind and a story that seemed to be headed nowhere interesting, I gave up. I was hoping for more of a Dexter vibe. No such luck.

Painful, Tedious and Horrible book
I was looking forward to reading You, however gave up after the 3rd chapter and returned the book to Barnes & Noble. I found this authors story line was redundant and each page felt like I had already read it. This author lost this very avid reader, I won't buy her books in the future. Unfortunately can't give it zero stars

Very Disappointing
Where to even start, The writing is absolutely awful. the best comparison I have for this is if my sixteen year old sister saw the show and decided to write a more vulgar, hornier, fan fiction full of terrible grammar and writing errors. I am a person who loves books and rarely side with Film adaptation but purely from a writing standing point the screenwriters of the show did a phenomenal job of taking this and making it the popular series it is today on their platform. skip the books, watch the show if you prefer good writing.

Delightfully creepy
If you aren't bothered by some vulgar language, this is an excellent read. I found Beck, the object of Joe's affection, to be so self absorbed and unlikeable. At the same time, Joe was a horror show who clearly had a traumatizing childhood so you feel sorry for him in that regard, but he's such an over-the-top creeper that you simply cannot like him either. I found the book to be almost voyeuristic, watching the intimate events unfold. If you are looking for a fast paced story about a creepy stalker, curl up with this one!

Very Creepy & Dark Thriller
The author did a great job with writing an intense and immersive storyline through the eyes of a very problematic, unreliable and unlikable narrator. I actually watched the Netflix show first, and was surprised at how much more vulgar Joe Goldberg is on page; I find myself preferring the screen adaptation more for once because of this. However, the story is still riveting and portrays a vastly different image of romance through a series of richly provoking events that really amplified the themes of trauma and obsession.
